Candied Orange Slices

March 26, 2018 by Danielle Leave a Comment

Hello hello! Are you looking for that perfect garnish to a cake or cupcakes? Or maybe you just have some left over citrus at the house that you want to use? Then this is the recipe for you!

Candied Orange Slices are easy and make a beautiful topping to just about any dessert! You can also use this method to candy just about any citrus fruit out there. Let’s get started!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2-3 medium size oranges (I used blood oranges for this)
  • 2 Cups of the water
  • 2 Cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • Large pot for boiling water
  • Bowl of Ice water
  • Sheet pan and rack for drying

Begin by cutting the oranges into thin slices, no more than 1/8 thick. Discard the end pieces and any seeds.

Meanwhile, bring a pot of water to a boil (with enough water to cover the orange slices) and prep a large bowl filled with ice water.

Add the sliced oranges to the boiling water and Blanche for 1 minute. Remove and immediately place in the ice water bath.

Soak until cool. While the oranges are cooling, add 2 cups of sugar, 2 cups of the water you used to boil the oranges and the orange juice to a sauce pan. Heat over med-low heat until sugar is dissolved.

Add the cooled orange slices to the syrup and stir gently to combine. Lower heat to low and simmer for 40-60 minutes or until oranges are soft but not falling apart.

Remove over to a drying rack, in a single layer, over a sheet pan lined with wax paper. Allow to dry for at least one hour, if not overnight.

Toss the orange slices in sugar if you don’t want them to be sticky and eat them straight up or decorate your favorite desserts!

Enjoy!
